FAQ
About matcha
What is matcha?
Matcha is a powdered Japanese green tea made by finely grinding unrolled tea leaves called tencha.
What is the difference between matcha and green tea?
Matcha is a special Japanese finely ground powder made from whole tea leaves, offering more nutrients and a richer taste than regular green tea. It is also farmed, harvested and processed differently and more intensely than ordinary green tea.
What makes matcha matcha unique?
We supplies premium Japanese matcha to over 500 cafes worldwide as MATSU, our wholesale brand. You can enjoy the same quality matcha you usually drink at your favorite cafe right at home.
Where is matcha matcha’s matcha produced?
matcha matcha is 100% sourced from Japan’s renowned tea regions including Shizuoka, Uji Kyoto, Mie, Yame Fukuoka, Kagoshima.
How should I store matcha?
Store matcha in a cool, dry, and dark place. Keep it in an air-tight container, as exposure to oxygen, heat, light, moisture, or strong odors can significantly affect its flavour and freshness.
How long does matcha last after opening?
Check the BBD on the package for the expiry date. After opening, use your matcha within 1–2 months. If the flavour or colour has faded, we recommend using it for baking rather than drinking.
What is ceremonial vs culinary grade matcha?
Ceremonial matcha comes from the first harvest, first season, and is traditionally stone-milled — a process that produces only 30g per hour. Our ceremonial matcha is carefully handpicked and stone-milled for smooth, high-quality drinking.
Culinary matcha has a stronger flavour and is made for baking, desserts, and cooking.
What is the difference between Uji matcha and Yame matcha?
Uji matcha comes from a river-surrounded basin with a long tea-growing history and is known for its rich aroma, refined umami, and clean finish.
Yame matcha is grown in fertile, well-drained soil with ample sunlight, resulting in a smooth, full-bodied taste with natural sweetness.
Is matcha healthy?
Matcha contains catechins, L-theanine, vitamins, and dietary fibre, and has traditionally been enjoyed to support relaxation, focus, and overall wellbeing.
While it does contain caffeine, matcha generally has slightly less caffeine than a standard espresso and provides a smoother, more gradual energy release.
How much caffeine is in matcha?
One serving has roughly the same caffeine as a cup of coffee but with a calmer energy release.
